What would make me touch a Mac

What would make me touch a Mac

2012 or early 2013 will be the time I finally take the plunge and buy an Apple iMac.  This might surprise those of you who know me as, being a Windows MVP (Microsoft Most Valuable Professional) awardee and a Windows author I’m certainly not the typical Apple, Mac or OS X type.  I don’t even currently own any Apple products, I never have.  So why am I now pretty determined to buy a Mac and what is it that’s standing in my way?The main reason for buying a iMac is aesthetics. ...

Is Tablet-Creep in Operating Systems a Bad Thing and Must we Accept it?

Is Tablet-Creep in Operating Systems a Bad Thing and Must we Accept it?

Like it or not, it would appear that the tablet-ification of our desktop operating systems is inevitable.  Setting aside the new Metro interface that will take the main focus of Windows 8, Apple are slowly creeping more tablet features into OS X and even Canonical are getting in on the act with their Unity interface for Ubuntu and their removal of drop-down menus.  So is tablet-creep a bad thing, and need we accept it?With Windows 8 out next week in beta we will finally get the answers...

Linux equivalents to popular Mac apps

Linux equivalents to popular Mac apps

In my most recent article (”Five tips to help ease the migration from Mac to Linux“) I outlined ways to help end-users transfer from the Mac operating system to the Linux operating system. It was suggested to me that I should cover applications that could serve as replacements for popular Mac apps. Your wish is my command. In this article I will outline a few of the possibilities that can be used to replace the beloved applications often used in Mac. In some cases their may...

Quickly capture screens and share them on OS X with Skitch

Quickly capture screens and share them on OS X with Skitch

Macs don’t have a PrintScreen button, and if we want to take a screen-capture, the default program we use is Grab. Grab is great in a few ways; you can choose to use a timer before a screen-capture is taken and it can be used to ensure only a certain area of the screen is captured. Unfortunately, after a screen capture has been taken, Grab lacks any features to edit it (eg cropping) and only lets you save it as a TIFF. It can be somewhat cumbersome to capture a screenshot in Grab,...

Install Windows 7 Beta on Your Mac with Parallels [UltraNewb]

The Simple Help weblog runs through installing Windows 7 on your Mac using Parallels, so you can experience the hype—from the safety of an easily deletable virtual machine. The installation process is nothing new to most Lifehacker readers, requiring only a copy of the Windows 7 beta, a recent version of Parallels Desktop, and some free time. But this guide has a full walkthrough of all the steps for the less tech-savvy, useful for sharing with friends that aren’t as technically...

Safari 3.2 Released, Bolsters Security [Safari]

Safari 3.2 Released, Bolsters Security [Safari]

Apple’s default web browser Safari saw a new release this afternoon to version 3.2. It doesn’t look like there’s anything exciting to report for this Windows and OS X release, though, as it appears to be strictly a security-related version bump. Still, if you use Safari regularly, do yourself a favor and download the latest. Thanks Sameer! (Fonte: Lifehacker) (Link) Technorati Tags: Apple, default web browser, Os X, safari
