15 (Really) Beautiful & Creative Book Covers

15 (Really) Beautiful & Creative Book Covers

Written by: Stanley Poh Before the early nineteenth century, books were hand-bound using heavy materials such as wood, leather, gold, silver and jewels. Over the centuries, book binding had always serve as a protection to expensively printed or hand-made pages, and as embellishments tribute to the cultural authorities. Other than the two most common covers; hardcovers and paperbacks, there are many other alternatives and additions, such as dust jackets, ring-binding and out-dated forms...

Download Google Books

Download Google Books

Google Books offers a vast library of books and magazines. Some books and magazines are provided as full digital copies that can be read online while others are only available as previews or summaries. Download options are not provided on Google Books which leaves users with no other choice than to read the books and magazines online or use a third party tool to download them to the local computer. We reviewed the Google Books Downloader back in 2009. The now defunct tool offered an option...

On Tweets in the Library of Congress

On Tweets in the Library of Congress

Published my first opinion piece on CNN.com today, in which I argue it’s a great thing that the Library of Congress is archiving billions of public tweets. Despite some parentheses trouble and unclickable URLs in the story (I’ve alerted my editor), I’m proud of how the piece came out, even though CNN.com commenters seem to think tweets are a waste of storage space. Thanks to @matty_g, @Jason_Pollock, @Swiftsfan, and @itwalkabout for the example tweets in the story. Who...

Correcting Kindle E-Books on the Fly

Correcting Kindle E-Books on the Fly

A few months back I bought Brian Tracy’s Eat That Frog–a great book about beating procrastination that I cited in a recent Fast Company video–on my Kindle. Today I got an interesting email from Amazon. To quote: We’re writing about your recent Kindle purchase of Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time by Brian Tracy. The version you received contained some errors that have been corrected. An updated version of Eat That...

The Complete Guide to Google Wave Now in Print!

The Complete Guide to Google Wave Now in Print!

I’m thrilled to announce that the online book by Adam Pash and myself, The Complete Guide to Google Wave, is now in print! Order your copy here. The new edition is double the pagecount of the Preview PDF released last fall and it’s packed with screenshots and examples. In this expansion, Adam and I went out of our way, page after page, to illustrate the answer the most common question about Wave: “What is the point?” We added two new chapters, completely rewrote...

What Should I Read Next Suggests Books To Read

What Should I Read Next Suggests Books To Read

How do you decide what to read and what not to read? The decision might be influenced by past books that have been read (e.g. from the same author or same topic), friend, colleague or magazine recommendations, advertisements, related books that are shown on shopping sites or by simply stumbling upon interesting books online or in a book store. What Should I Read Next is an online service that can suggest new books to read from a single book title entered into the form on the service’s...

Google Docs’ “Upload Any File” Available Now

As promised, Google Docs has rolled out the “upload any file” feature that lets you store files up to 250MB in size in Docs (up to 1GB for free, $0.25 per extra GB). Just checked my account and got the notification near the Upload button explaining the new capability. Coupled with the ability to share folders, this can easily be used to share any kind of media–like an album of MP3s, as shown in the screenshot (supplied by a reader). Forbes on Google Apps in the Enterprise

Forbes on Google Apps in the Enterprise

“Google now has 1,000 of its 20,000 employees working on enterprise products, largely Apps. Four hundred are engineers; most of the rest are involved in sales and support, a high proportion at engineer-dominated Google. The enterprise is still dwarfed by Microsoft, which makes $19 billion from the office suite. Still, 2 million businesses have signed on to use Google software in its short life, drawn by cost, speed, collaboration and control.” Continua a leggere – Original...

Moving Site Hosts; Closing Comments Temporarily

Moving Site Hosts; Closing Comments Temporarily

DreamHost’s four-hour network outage yesterday, which took my private server down with it, was the cherry on top of a four-month sundae of DreamHost downages which convinced me to move to a MediaTemple DV server. I’m completing that move this afternoon. While the DNS propagates, comments and user registrations will be shut off here at Smarterware. Things should be back to normal by the end of the week. Thanks for your patience! Continua a leggere – Original Link: Moving...

My New Book: The Complete Guide to Google Wave

My New Book: The Complete Guide to Google Wave

I’m tickled pink to finally announce the project I’ve been hard at work on for weeks now: my new book, The Complete Guide to Google Wave, is now available to read and share for free at completewaveguide.com. Anyone who reads my stuff or listens to This Week in Google knows that I’m a Google Wave nut. Yes, it’s a hyped, complex, do-it-all web application, but the sheer ambition is part of Wave’s appeal for me. Since I logged onto Wave’s developer sandbox...

Travian: dipendenza? frode? frustrazione?

Conoscete Travian? Post correlati: FaceBook Lite in arrivo … attacco a Twitter? Facebook...

Aggiornamento Iphone esplosi: Apple risponde

Post correlati: iPhone … Apple è già nei guai?
