Effectively Work a Crowd by Searching Out Clusters [Communication]

16 Set/09

Extroverts and social butterflies thrive on mingling, but for the more introverted crew, “getting out there” can be less than appealing. Here are some suggestions on how to effectively work a crowd of strangers.

Alexis Bauer presented her ideas on how to work a crowd during a 5 minute talk at self-described “geek culture” presentation show Ignite.

According to Alexis, one of the keys to working a crowd is to seek out groups or clusters of people instead of making a beeline for the nearest single person. Alexis goes on to say (somewhat obviously) that it’s best to stick to open-ended questions and to keep the other person talking about something that you, not the other person finds interesting.

Check out the above video to hear more tips on how to talk to strangers, then tell us about your mingling methods in the comments.
