Install Windows 7 on Almost Any Netbook [Windows 7]

19 Mag/09

According to Gizmodo’s John Herman, Windows 7 runs like a charm on diminutive netbooks. Installing the new Windows operating system on a netbook, on the other hand, can be a pain.

To help out netbook-toting Windows loyalists looking to try out the free-for-a-year Windows 7 Release Candidate, Gizmodo walks through how to install Windows 7 on nearly any netbook (even low-end models), assuming you’ve got at least 1GB of RAM, 8GB of hard drive space, a minimum 4GB thumb drive, the Windows 7 Release Candidate, and a little free time.

In a nutshell, the guide details how to install the Windows 7 RC ISO to a bootable USB thumb drive (most netbooks lack the necessary DVD drive to read from a disc) which you can then use to install Windows 7 to your netbook. It’s not as simple as the straight install you’d perform if you were performing a more traditional upgrade to Windows 7, but the post also links to several detailed netbook-specific guides to help you get the job done one way or another.

If you’re already running Windows 7 on your netbook, let’s hear how it’s been working for you in the comments.
