Firefox with Greasemonkey: User script GReader FavIcon Alerts adds tiny text over the top of the Google Reader address bar icon, showing you at a glance how many unread items you have. Lifehacker reader Peter created this script (based off his previously mentioned Gmail FavIcon Alerts ) as an easy way to see how many unread items you have by simply glancing at the icon in the tab—or if the window is minimized you can see the unread count in the taskbar. For even more customizations, be sure you’ve checked out the Better GReader extension . Thanks, Phillip! GReader FavIcon Alerts is a free download, requires Firefox with the Greasemonkey extension.
